The Human Rights Council is an inter-governmental body within the UN system made up of 47 States responsible for strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights around the globe. The Council was created by the UN General Assembly on 15 March 2006 with the main purpose of addressing situations of human rights violations and make recommendations on them.

The First Committee of the GA dealing with disarmament was created in order to offer states a proper space for states to discuss their positions on disarmament issues and to work together compromises or tools to better approach this sensitive matter. It allows states to build consensus on the matter and agree upon common norms and behaviours. Through this committee, governments discuss how to achieve security arrangements, not by maximizing weapons’ arsenals, but rather reducing these arsenals as well as the rates of weapons ‘production.

Ayman Köseoğlu

Dear Future delegates,
I’m Ayman Köseoğlu and I’m 22 years old.I’m in my third year at Yeditepe University,Istanbul;however currently accomodating in Russia as an exchange student. It’s an honour to introduce myself as chair in Human Rights Council in BISMUN 2012. Having attended 7 MUN conferences so far, such as,Yeditepe Model United Nations, Model United Nations Turkey,Model United Nations of Istanbul conference(MUNIST),THESSISMUN as delegate, chair, organization team member and member of Secretariat,I believe that MUN is a unique experience that helps you acknowledge about the current problems, situations that the world is facing.
For me,protecting and solving the problems related to the human rights is a very important issue and everyone should be aware of his/her rights as human beings.

So,as committee directors we are expecting you delegates to work hard and collaboratively in order to protect the lives of the civilians in the whole world and I’m sure that we’ll have achieved great success at the end of the conference.

As you all know,MUN’s are not about diplomacy only, but also about getting to know people from different parts of the world, making new friends, having fun and relaxing in the social events.
I’m sure that we’ll enjoy our time in this prestigious conference and will return back to our homes with a post-MUN depression and will never forget this beautiful event.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me!
Hope to see you all in the great city of Bucharest and in BISMUN!
