When referring to environmental protection one implies any activity that aims at maintaining or restoring the quality of the environment through preventing the emission of pollutants or reducing the presence of polluting substances in the environment.
Although it has existed as a clear issue since old times, the awareness of its importance has increased especially since 1960. Nowadays, there are organizations and academic institutions that have environmental protection as their main activity.
