One of the major achievements of the European Union is creating a vast space without boundaries within which people can move freely without border control. European citizens are also free to choose the EU country in which they wish to live and work. However, to ensure that citizens can fully enjoy these freedoms, the EU must manage its external borders effectively. Its judicial authorities and police forces must also work closely to ensure that, throughout Europe, citizens enjoy the same protection against crime, have equal access to justice and can fully exercise their rights.
The EU is developing a more coordinated policy on asylum and immigration policy so that asylum seekers are treated fairly and that the legal immigrants the EU needs are integrated into European societies. Actions are also being taken to prevent abuse and fight against illegal immigration. In addition, because of globalization, it is vital that member states of the EU actually work together to fight against organized crime and international terrorism. Thus, the EU will be indeed a single area of freedom, security and justice for all.
Despoina Papadopoulou
Hello Everyone!
My name is Despoina Papadopoulou, I’m 20 years old and I come from Greece. My field of expertise is International and European studies, a path I decided to walk when I was introduced to the inner workings of grand scale organizations such as E.U, through the Euroscola program. The MUN virus was the next step and so after my first MUN and 10 MUN after that one, in one year, I am happy to come back to the crime scene as a chair this time around. In addition to that I am an intern to the UNESCO Center for Women and Peace in the Balkans where my love for anything that has to do with human rights (especially those of children and women) is fully expressed.
BISMUN holds a special place in my heart since I had an amazing time last year, making new friends, having fun and winning my first award. I am sure that BISMUN 2012 will be an amazing experience for all of you as well, meeting new people, new cultures and honing your diplomatic skills all the while!
Delia Radu
Hey, my name is Delia Radu, I’m 21 and I’ll be one of the chairpersons for the EP Committee LIBE, in what will be my second chairing experience so far.
I’m currently in my third year, studying International Relations at the Faculty of History and English and French at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, both at the University of Bucharest and I will be continuing my studies with an MA on Politics, Security and Integration at University College London.
For the past year, I’ve been a member of AIESEC Bucharest and, also, this is my third year of membership in the English Speaking Union, Romania. Other than that, I participated, on various occasions, in a series of seminars, both in Europe and the US, on classical liberal politics, economics and history, which pretty much define my own political inclinations.
Usually, whenever I attend conferences or seminars, my first expectation is - strangely so, people tell me - that I want to be amazed (in the good sense of the term, naturally). I’m really excited about this year’s BISMUN and I’m fairly sure there will be quite a lot of amazing things going on, both within the debates and within the conference, as a whole.
Can’t wait to meet you and cheers, everybody!
