The Rules of Procedure of BISMUN are to be found in the “Preparation” section of the website.

What is a Position Paper?
A Position Paper is an essay that presents the position of your country on the two topics that are to be discussed within your committee. They will have to be sent to your chairs by a date that we will later announce. Position Papers are very useful, for they offer your chairs an image on the research you have conducted; they get to see if you have understood properly the position of the country you are representing and to give you suggestions on the aspects you need to do further research on.

What kind of research should I do?
If this is the first time you participate in a Model UN, you should start by finding out how your committee works. You can do that by accessing the official website of that specific body.
After that, you should start getting familiar with the topics that are to be discussed. You should look for the history of the problem, the steps taken towards solving it, the recent developments and the positions of the key actors in the matter. A good starting point for this will be the study guides the chairs will prepare for you, that will be available shortly.
Last, but not least, you need to find out which is the official position of your country on the matter. Most countries make this kind of information available on the websites of their Ministries of Foreign Affairs or on the website of their permanent mission to the UN. Also check for speeches the ambassadors of your country have made in front of various international fora.
Also, keep in mind that most countries formulate their position in accordance with the general position of the other organizations they are part of. So it would be useful to check the position of the EU, NATO or any other prominent international organization your country might me a member of, for a broader view.
